"Morpho Athena" by Todd Powelson

There is an ancient Greek myth that tells how the titan Prometheus sculpted the first human being out of mud, and goddess Athena breathed life into and placed a soul (in the form of a butterfly) into his clay figure's head.

I've known of this story for a long time and, whenever I'd think about it (which wasn't all that often, to be honest) I knew the myth could make a cool image, but I wasn't sure how to illustrate it... So I'd end up moving on to another project, because I always have many ideas I want to get down. Suddenly a month or two ago and quite out of the blue, I thought I could make my myth-image look like this: the new artwork at the top of this here post. My "Morpho Athena" (sans Promethus)!

If you like this artwork and are interested in purchasing a print, you can click here to visit my Etsy store and pick up a copy. Thanks so much!
